Matthew 7:12

"'Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.'"

This "Golden Rule" is so familiar to us that we can forget to follow it! Jesus says this is a summary of God's whole revelation. It is a rule of life. If you're ever unsure of how to proceed in a situation or a relationship, ask yourself what you would like, or how you would like to be treated. It's likely to be the best approach in that situation or relationship.

Matthew 7:9-11

"'You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.'"

Seeking good gifts from God is not rebuked. It's encouraged! We're to seek based on the fact of God's own character as a loving Father. As parents we don't give our children a stone if they ask for bread. Yet sometimes we fall into the trap of believing it's somehow wrong to ask for bread, and therefore God will give us a stone. When you ask God for something, dwell on his character as a loving Father. Then you will be able to trust and receive the good things he has for you.

Mathew 7:7-8

"'Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.'"

Persistence is quite necessary for living the Christian life. We will receive if we keep on asking, seeking, and knocking. We often give up far too easily. If you are discouraged today because your asking and seeking have not seen results yet, take heart. Keep on if you're sure your way is right. Often all that's needed is persistence
